Copilot Cowork is Microsoft's attempt at making Copilot more useful when you actually want work done, not just an answer in chat. It's a preview feature in Microsoft 365 Copilot for tasks that run over several steps, like meeting prep, email follow-ups, document work and coordination.
Regular Copilot is most useful for questions, summaries and first drafts. Cowork is built for tasks where you want to hand off more of the actual execution. Microsoft describes it as being able to pull context from Microsoft 365, draw up a plan, draft documents, prepare emails, suggest calendar changes and ask for approval before important actions are carried out.
If your working day already happens in Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive and SharePoint, it's easy to see the point. This is mainly for people who spend a lot of time pulling threads together, prepping for meetings and producing first versions of things that will later be reviewed by a human.
